HEROIN SUPPLY IN DUPAGE COUNTY INCREASES.
The following is an excerpt from an article in the Clarendon Hills Doings by Kevin Beese that accurately reflects this current trend:

During the first eight months of this year, DuPage County's drug squad has seized 733 grams of heroin, a 783 percent increase from the same time period in 2009.

"We attribute that to an increase in supply," said Steve Loan, a representative of the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group, which includes 25 local law-enforcement agencies in DuPage County, the Illinois State Police and the DuPage State's Attorney's Office.

Loan, a master sergeant with the state police, spoke Sept. 30 at a Heroin Crisis in Our Suburbs forum, sponsored by state Rep. Patti Bellock, R-47th, of Hinsdale. Loan said it was in January that DuMEG agents started noticing heroin overdoses occurring.

And ever since, forum panelists said, it has been apparent that heroin is increasingly becoming DuPage's drug of choice. Loan noted DuMEG's seizure of cocaine has dropped as a result of the shift. DuMEG seized 221 kilograms of cocaine in the first eight months of 2009. It recovered 8 kilos during the first eight months of 2010.
